How to Make Resin Bookmarks (Beginner Friendly Guide)
Share
Resin bookmarks are a fun and creative way to start working with resin. They’re small, simple to make and easy to personalise with colours, glitters or dried flowers. At Sal’s Forever Flowers, resin bookmarks are one of our popular handmade gifts — especially when they include real petals or confetti.
Here’s a gentle guide to help you understand how resin bookmarks are made.
Safety First — Working With Resin
Before starting anything with resin, safety is essential.
Resin is a strong chemical when in liquid form, so make sure you’re protected and working in the right environment.
You’ll need:
- A well-ventilated room dedicated to resin work
- A full-face mask or goggles + respirator
- Nitrile gloves
- Apron
- A silicone mat to protect your workspace
If you feel like you’re dressing up for a sci-fi film… you’re probably doing it right!
A silicone mat is especially helpful — once resin cures, you can simply peel it off without damaging your surface.
Choosing the Right Resin & Materials
There are many types and brands of resin, and it often comes down to personal preference.
When choosing:
- Check whether your resin mixes 1:1, 2:1 or by weight
- Look for a resin suitable for small moulds
- Make sure your space is the right temperature and humidity
You’ll also need:
- Bookmark silicone moulds
- Mixing cups
- Stirrers
- Pigments, mica powders or glitters
- Optional dried flowers or petals
- Ribbons, tassels or twine for finishing
- This is a good stage to experiment with colours and designs.
Mixing Your Resin
Start small — one bookmark at a time is best.
- Measure out Part A into a small cup.
- Add Part B, following the exact ratio given by your resin brand.
- Stir slowly and steadily for at least 4 minutes.
- Add pigments, mica, glitter or colour if you wish.
Stirring too fast can cause bubbles, so keep your movements gentle.
Pouring Your Bookmark
Once your resin is fully mixed:
- Leave it for a few minutes to de-gas
- Pour a thin layer into your silicone mould
- Add petals, tiny flowers, shaker pieces or glitter
- Top up with more resin until everything is fully covered
Resin begins to cure quickly, so try to work efficiently.
Curing & Finishing Your Bookmark
Resin typically takes 24 hours to cure, but some brands may take longer.
Once cured:
- Gently demould your bookmark
- Trim any edges if needed
- Add a tassel, ribbon or twine
And your handmade resin bookmark is ready to use or gift!
