A Lockdown Love Story: Preserving Jessica’s Wedding Bouquet After the First UK Post-Covid Wedding

Jessica and Jonny’s wedding was more than a celebration — it became a moment of national significance. After rearranging their day three times due to the pandemic, they finally married in March with just six guests, becoming one of the first UK couples to wed after lockdown restrictions eased. Their story was even featured on BBC News and in national newspapers.

Among the emotions, the changes, the uncertainty and the joy, Jessica held a bouquet she had dreamt of for years — and she wanted a way to keep it forever. I was honoured to preserve her flowers and turn them into meaningful keepsakes from a day they fought so hard to reach.

Jessica & Jonny’s Journey to “I Do”

Jessica and Jonny first met on a cruise in 2014, and four years later Jonny proposed in the exact place they had met — on another cruise ship. What followed was years of planning, excitement and imagining the perfect day… until the world changed.

Like so many couples in 2020 and 2021, their wedding was postponed, rearranged and cancelled multiple times. Each change meant new suppliers, new dates, new emotions. But what never changed was their commitment to each other.

When restrictions finally lifted, they chose an intimate ceremony with close family — simple, meaningful and deeply personal.

Finding the Right Bouquet… Against All Odds

Jessica had originally planned to carry an artificial bouquet, but when her florist had to cancel at the last minute, she was heartbroken. A bride without her flowers is something no one prepares for.

Determined, she searched for a new florist and found a wonderful local supplier who created a fresh bouquet filled with her favourite blooms — including her special request: the Welsh daffodil, a flower close to her heart.

This bouquet became a symbol of resilience, love and everything they had overcome.

Preserving a Bouquet with a Story

When Jessica reached out to me at Sal’s Forever Flowers, she shared how important this bouquet was — not just as wedding flowers, but as a reminder of their journey through lockdown.

We carefully preserved her bouquet using professional drying techniques to maintain the colour, shape and emotion of each flower.
Jessica chose a range of keepsakes, turning her petals into pieces she can treasure for a lifetime.

Why This Story Matters

Every bouquet has a story, but Jessica’s carries years of hope, waiting, rearranging and strength. Preserving her flowers meant preserving a chapter of their lives that changed them forever.

Their day may not have been what they first imagined…
but it became something even more meaningful.
