The cost of wedding flowers is typically dependent on your allocated budget as well as what’s trending at the moment. It also depends on the type of flower you go for. It’s not easy to give an exact price for wedding flowers, but we can explain how the pricing works.Â
Choosing the perfect floral arrangement can be quite difficult, especially if you plan on opting for ourwedding flower preservation afterwards.
Your Wedding Flower Budget
It’s always best to speak with your florist about budgets before getting started as they can guide you through your options. The biggest factor which will affect your budget is the type of flower you decide to go for and the number of flowers you will need.Â
If you decide to have a floral wonderland, then you will need to have a considerable amount of your overall wedding budget put aside for your flowers. If you keep it more subtle and simple you will save quite a lot of your money which can then be used elsewhere.
How Does the Pricing of Wedding Flowers Work
The cost of flowers will also depend on the date as flowers come in and out of season. If the wedding flowers you want are not in season or just coming into the season, you can expect to pay a lot more for them as they will be harder to come by and may need to be imported.Â
To keep costs down, try to find flowers that will be in season for your wedding date. The location of the wedding can also affect the cost of the flowers. If your florist is having to travel to and from venues, this will cost more depending on how far they have to go. It is always best to find a local florist who will not have to travel far.
How Much Should My Wedding Flowers Budget Be?
Most florists will say you need a minimum of £1000 put away for your floral budget for a bride’s bouquet, bridesmaids’ bouquets, flower girl accessories, buttonholes, corsages along with all the table décor. This is quite a big chunk of the budget but will get you a variety of flowers in generous quantities. You’ll then have various options to choose from if you decide to opt for wedding flower preservation.
Many wedding bouquets, bridesmaids’ flowers and buttonholes start from around £350 upwards. This is a general overview, however, we had a chat with our friend Laura, who ownsRegent House of Flowers in Wrexham about her thoughts on trends and budgets.Â
What Do Independent Florists Have to Say About Floral Trends?
Laura is an independent florist who has been creating stunning floral arrangements for over 30 years now. You can purchase hand-tied bouquets and floral gifts or order your wedding bouquets or funeral arrangements at Laura’s shop. Laura spoke to us about her pricing and makes sure there is something for everyone’s budget.
Laura explained to us how gypsophila is very on-trend at present and the traditional favourites are roses. The seasonal favourites are peonies and hydrangeas, which we always see a lot of. This year at Sals Forever Flowers, we are already seeing a lot of peonies and they have only just come into season.
When thinking about wedding flower budgets, it’s good to know what flowers cost more and which cost less as this will help you plan and pick your perfect flower décor and bouquet.
What Do Independent Florists Have to Say About Budgets?
Firstly, you will need to consider what type of bouquet shape you would like. Laura explained a hand-tied bouquet can start from around £85 and a shower from around £100 upwards. Knowing what style you want to go for will determine how much you spend, your florist should be able to advise you on the perfect blooms for the style you decide to go for.
The Prices of Different Flowers
Starting at the top of the list with some of the less costly flowers. For a small budget gypsophila —otherwise known as baby’s breath— and gerbera (they look like large daisies) are perfect. They range from as little as £35 upwards. Gerberas come in a range of vibrant colours and are one of our favourite flowers to preserve here. They are always so pretty in any bouquet!Â
Gypsophila is another one of our favourites here at Sals Forever Flowers. We love to work with gypsophila because it dries so well. After your big day, you could hang it upside down and let it dry naturally, making it an easy form of wedding flower preservation.Â
On the more expensive side of flowers on the market are orchids. Orchids can range from £80 upwards depending on the type of orchid and style of bouquet you decide to go for.
Once you have decided on your style and flowers, you will need to consider whether you will be providing flowers for the rest of your bridal party. After all, there are the bridesmaids and flower girls to consider. Again, this will all depend on your budget and how you want your day to look.
Flowers for the Bridal Party
Laura explains that bridesmaid bouquets can start from as little as £25 for a simple style. However, if you want a smaller version of the bride’s bouquet as a hand-tied arrangement, you will be looking at a starting price of around £50.
Laura said the most popular item for flower girls is flower girl wands. A lot of brides are also making flower crowns for their bridal parties. They make matching ones for their bridesmaids and mini versions for the flower girls. We absolutely love the idea of floral crowns.
When thinking about flowers for your wedding, you’ll also want to consider buttonholes for the groom and the other men in the party, such as the best man and the fathers of the bride and groom. You might also be considering a corsage for the mothers of the bride and groom.Â
Laura spoke about the different prices and explained that buttonholes range from £8.95 each if roses are incorporated in them or £5.95 if you prefer carnations. Simple gypsophila starts from just £4.95 in a buttonhole.
