How Long Do Dried Flowers Last?

Flowers are considered a universal language by many. Flowers are used to express a variety of emotions and feelings. We give and receive flowers for many occasions such as sympathy flowers as a funeral tribute or even flower bouquets for weddings. From birthdays to Valentine’s Day, there are flowers for all occasions.

How Dried Flower Bouquets Are Set to Be Big in 2022

Today we are going to talk about dried flowers. Dry flowers are becoming more popular for home interiors and for wedding bouquets and we are set to see an increase in how many dried flower wedding bouquets we see this year. 2022 will be the year dried flower bouquets really make an impression.

The flower industry is not the most eco-friendly and this is one of the reasons dried flowers are trending this year. They offer the same beauty as fresh flowers, but without having to change the flowers regularly when looking at home interiors. This will have less of an impact on the environment as less packaging will be needed.

As dried flowers have all the moisture removed from them, they are classed as preserved flowers. Without the moisture in the flowers, they are unlikely to rot, making them last a lot longer than fresh flowers. Although classed as preserved flowers, dried flowers will not last forever. You can expect them to last between 1 and 3 years.

Taking Care of Your Dried Flowers

Your dried flowers will need to be looked after carefully. You need to keep the flowers out of direct sunlight as this will cause the colour of your flowers to fade. Dried flowers can already be quite dull in colour as all the moisture is sucked out of them, so it’s vital that you keep them away from sunlight to prolong the vibrance of their colour.

If your flowers have been placed in a vase you will have to clean them. Dried flowers are much lower maintenance than fresh but as you can imagine they will gather dust. Give them a light dusting with a feather duster or a gentle blow with a hairdryer.

It’s also important to keep your dried flowers somewhere where they won’t get wet as moisture can cause mould.

Repurposing Your Flowers

An advantage of having a dry flower arrangement in your home is that you can repurpose the flowers. You can change up the arrangement and add and remove elements keeping your arrangement looking fresh.

This is also a great way to keep your dried wedding bouquet. You can split it into smaller arrangements to have elements of your special bouquet in each room of your home. You may even consider framing some elements of your dried flower arrangement.
